Sure, you thought that things were looking better - undefeated and in the top 25, with players finally buying in to Rich Rodriguez's philosophies and putting past controversies behind them.
The loss to MSU today probably stings, but you'lve got something to look forward to, and that is the man in the picture - QB Tate Forcier.
I'm not a Michigan fan at all - in fact I hope they lose every single game - but I can see when rare talent comes along. Tate Forcier reminds me of another talented quarterback he just defeated a few weeks ago in Notre Dame's Jimmy Clausen. I'm not referring to playing styles, or mechanics, but rather in what the Wolverines have to look forward to in the coming years.
Forcier is a raw talent that can show signs of greatness like the final drive against Notre Dame, but can also expose weakness like overtime against MSU. Like Forcier, Clausen began his career as a true freshman, with the burden of one of the most prestigious collegiate programs on his shoulders. No one is expecting a true freshman to come in and pick up the offense, put up spectacular numbers and then go on to win the national championship. But looking back at the poise that Clausen has as a junior and his monster numbers, and then seeing how far he has come in the last two years since being a true freshman quarterback makes me thing similar success is to be enjoyed by Forcier and the Wolverines.
I'm not looking forward to seeing Forcier in upcoming years as an opponent, but that says a lot about him and his potential talent. So cheer up Michigan fan - while you've blown out the two MAC opponents you've faced, the wins against Notre Dame and Indiana could have gone either way, but so could the loss to Michigan State. Say goodbye to the top 25, but hello to a shot at returning to greatness in a couple years.
